Día de los Muertos is observed in Mexican culture and in many communities around the world as a time of remembrance, connection, and honouring those who have died.
For some, it is vibrant and communal. For others, it is personal, reflective, or quietly held. It can include storytelling, food, ritual, and memory.
I want to acknowledge Día de los Muertos without assuming how it is observed, or what it means in any one life.
Remembering does not have to be sombre to be meaningful. It can hold warmth, humour, and continuity alongside grief.
